It’s official, Summer is on! Staycations are on the rise as the nation is set to holiday on home turf due to ongoing restrictions around travelling overseas. That means it’s time to get on top of your vehicle maintenance ready for the warmer months – especially if it’s been sitting unused for a while.

Below are our top five tips for checking your vehicle is in good condition for Spring / Summer.

1.  MOT and Service

Vehicles need an up-to-date MOT certificate every year, and it’s been estimated that one n five motorists are driving around without a valid MOT due to the extension given last year in the pandemic. The DVSA has launched a SAFE campaign to encourage drivers to get an early MOT to ensure their vehicle is safe. Check in with your local garage to get your MOT booked now – and you can even sign up for MOT reminders at https://www.gov.uk/mot-reminder

2.  Tyres

Check the condition of your tyres by making sure there are no visible punctures or bulges, and the tread legally must be at least 1.6mm. If you’re unsure, visit your local vehicle technician to give them a once over.

 3.  Battery

Vehicles sitting unused can cause problems for the battery. Make sure you regularly run your battery, even if you aren’t going out, to save it from draining. At partsinmotion.co.uk we have a range of batteries available including NAPA and Bosch.

 4.  Fluids

A quick and easy check! Make sure your screen wash, engine oil, coolant and brake fluids are topped up. If you need to stock up on any vehicle fluids, visit partsinmotion.co.uk to view our full range.

 5.     Bulbs

This covers headlamps, brake lights and indicators. Even if the days are lighter, you still need to ensure all bulbs are in working order. With brands such as OSRAM and NAPA, we’ve got your vehicle covered.
