With temperatures reaching up to 35 degrees over the next few days, PartsInMotion.co.uk has put together its top tips on looking after your vehicle during a heatwave.

Fluids

It’s important to check all of the fluid levels in your vehicle throughout the year, but during hot weather it’s very important to keep an eye on the engine coolant as it is responsible for preventing corrosion damage in the engine and keeping your vehicle running smoothly. Low coolant levels can cause the engine to overheat. To check the level, wait until the engine has cooled down and locate the right tank, have a look in the manufacturers handbook to find the correct one. The coolant level should be between the minimum and maximum marks on the tank. You should also check the levels of your screen wash and brake fluids. If you need to stock up, visit PartsInMotion.co.uk to view our full range of fluids and lubricants.

Tyre Pressure

Tyres can expand in high temperatures so it’s essential that you check the pressure of them. You can do this yourself using a tyre pressure gauge, to check, remove the valve dust cap from the tyre valve and place the pressure gauge onto the tyre valve stem. Press down the gauge evenly on the valve stem to ensure you get an accurate reading, which will determine if you’ll need to deflate or inflate your tyres. If your tyres need inflating, use a suitable pump or fill them with air at your local garage. If you’re unsure, have them looked at by a professional.

Air Conditioning

Driving in a hot and stuffy car is not fun, especially during a heatwave, so make sure your air conditioning is in working order. If it’s not, then we’ve got you covered with our air conditioning parts range offering a variety of products for different vehicle makes and models, including vehicles with automatic climate control.

Park in the shade!

Lastly, wherever possible try to park your vehicle in the shade so it’s not too hot when you get in it. It may be difficult to fit a cool, shady spot so you could always get yourself this windscreen cover to help keep it cool! The cover is also great for winter when it comes to protecting your windscreen from freezing in cold temperatures.
